Question: Pants for cold weather?

In January, I'll move from the warm South of the US to the much colder North. Precisely, from NC to ME.

I've never lived where it snows regularly, and I don't know what pants fashionable people wear to stay warm on those winter days while walking around in the snow-covered city.

Do you have suggestions? Photos, first-hand accounts, links, and opinions are all welcome!

Please, for more exposure!

Thanks!

First of all, the word 'fashionable' barely exists in Maine. Second, Jeans will be fine, but I just got these in 2 colors and love them: https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-iron-forge-hemp-5-pocket-work-pants-regular/56290.html?dwvar_56290_color=DKAS (there is a pocket on the leg that is perfect for an iphone)
Hope that helps!

@Sidlowkid this does help! I always wondered if jeans would be too cold. Thanks for your recommendation! Those pants look nice, too bad their short inseam is too long for me 😅 I guess there's always tailoring.

Not to worry, you can always cuff them ala Fran Lebowitz, a fashion icon if there ever was one! Also, I bought them too long, and I just cuff them myself, LOL

@borghal In the UK 'pants' means the things you put on underneath your trousers. So yes, we definitely recommend wearing pants in cold weather 😆

@grimethorpeband that's a good recommendation, too! 😂

@borghal That'll depend on how much time you're going to spend outside. If you're just going from your car to indoors, wear whatever pants you want. Just be sure to have a nice parka.
If I'm outside a lot, I wear thicker Carhartts, but I'm no fashion guy. Husband wears flannel-lined jeans. Very warm. Hiking? They make snow pants for that.

@WolfM this is very helpful, thank you for your perspective!
